dear all,

in response to the question about using various substances in massage oil to
be used on lactating breasts, i am reminded that at the last CO/WY Regional
LLL Conference, a seminar was given about drugs and bf. a study was mentioned
from england in which mothers were given a massage oil that was used for some
quite long length of time. unfortunately, it happened to contain peanut oil.
it was not until several fatal allergic reactions to peanut products occurred
in children that had participated in the study that it was realized that they
had become sensitized. it seems to reinforce the idea that we must be very
careful with things the baby can ingest directly, a good reason for using the
extremely neutral lanolins.

i cannot find the study for this one in the notes from the conference, but
the extremely wonderful panel was given by Linda Killon Healow, who some of
you probably know.
