Many years ago I read about L-Lysine and its use with herpes (in Parade
Magazine-a lay medical journal!). Since then Saturday Evening Post (another
lay medical journal!) has published lots of articles on the use of L-Lysine
with herpes and other illnesses. Our family's personal experience with
L-Lysine, an amino acid, available in tablet form, and high in certain
foods, has been excellent. We are all prone to fever sores and use L-Lysine
faithfully. I recommend it to pts that have lots of trouble with herpes
outbreaks (I or II) and I've recommended it for use with shingles.

I give parents the list of high lysine foods and high arginine foods. If
you eat high arginine foods it encourages herpes development. We've learned
to "cover" an excursion into these foods with popping some extra L-Lysine.
ie: I love almonds and overdoing them can cause an outbreak in me. If I
have a meal with almonds I take extra L-Lysine. SatEvePost has lots of info
on this and can tell you names of drs doing research into this. Pat Young
