I just got an e-mail from my sister- a nurse in Maryland, USA. The wife a a
pediatrician at her hospital has siezuers. Wife went off of her seizure
medicine so that she could breastfeed her baby. Mom had a seizure while
baby (six month old) was being given a bath. By the time seizure was over
and mom came around, baby had drowned.

The question here is, are there drugs for seizure disorders that are safe
for breatsfeeind mothers? Of course this mother cannot bring her baby
back. My sister (who is not in the lactation field) was wondering if this
has veer come up and how we deal with it. Any answers or thoughts out there?

Thanks, nancy Sherwood- LLLL, IBCLC- Perth, Australia
