I use the analogy of a skateboard and a jet plane. If you are going from where I live to California, you don't use a skateboard, you get on a plane.

What about describing pumps the way we do other appliances? "Standard" vs.
"Industrial strength"? I know those aren't the most touchy-feely words but they denote something specific. One is for average use (pumping while away from a nursing baby) and the other is for heavy use (pumping for every feeding/feeding initiation/etc).

I agree these are useful. I know the analogy doesn't work perfectly, but sometimes I use the "vehicular" descriptions: if you are just driving normally with a normal "load" a regular car is fine, but if you are going uphill, over tough terrain and/or trailering something extra, you want a truck.
Moms seem to get that. Cars are standard too, trucks for more heavy duty industrial use...:)
