I use the analogy of a skateboard and a jet plane. If you are going from where I live to California, you don't use a skateboard, you get on a plane. -----Original Message----- From: Lactation Information and Discussion [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Judy LeVan Fram Sent: Monday, January 21, 2013 9:44 PM Subject: Re: New USFDA article about pumps Bryna writes: What about describing pumps the way we do other appliances? "Standard" vs. "Industrial strength"? I know those aren't the most touchy-feely words but they denote something specific. One is for average use (pumping while away from a nursing baby) and the other is for heavy use (pumping for every feeding/feeding initiation/etc). ~~~ I agree these are useful. I know the analogy doesn't work perfectly, but sometimes I use the "vehicular" descriptions: if you are just driving normally with a normal "load" a regular car is fine, but if you are going uphill, over tough terrain and/or trailering something extra, you want a truck. Moms seem to get that. Cars are standard too, trucks for more heavy duty industrial use...:) Peace, Judy Judy LeVan Fram, PT, IBCLC, LLLL Brooklyn, NY, USA [log in to unmask] *********************************************** Archives: http://community.lsoft.com/archives/LACTNET.html To reach list owners: [log in to unmask] Mail all list management commands to: [log in to unmask] COMMANDS: 1.
