I wonder if she isn't just having a strong let down reflex in the shower.
As a Raynaud's sufferer, what you describe does not sound anything like
Raynaud's but does remind me of the way the skin of the areola often
puckers and is therefore less soft, as a let down is happening.  Usually
this happens in the baby's mouth so maybe mother has never seen it before.
