A resource I might recommend for this - Stephanie Casemore's book "Breastfeeding: Take Two." She does a wonderful job of discussing the emotions mothers feel when breastfeeding goes wrong, and emphasizes that the mother is not a failure - she has often been failed by those she looked to for support and help. There are many mothers' stories in the book and the women often talk about how they came to terms with their disappointing experiences. Might be a book worth sharing with a mother who has been through this, or reading ourselves to give those of us who work with breastfeeding mothers some ideas about how to discuss it.
