Jennifer,
This dyad appear right on track with your help. The nipple shield I
use comes with a little brochure with instructions. The mother's
nipple often does not completely fill the shield teat. Milk transfer
is the bottom line.
I would keep things as positive and simple as possible. Continue what
seems to be working well, STS, the shield and the anti-gravity
positioning. Over time, I predict the baby will gradually wean from
the shield. Mothers often seem to know when to try without it. No
pressure or time line for that.
Make sure baby is being followed for the head injury and for wt gains.
