But given that perceived insufficient milk is the most common reason for
weaning...anywhere between 20 and 30% of women wouldn't being female and
having just given birth be a red flag for low milk supply??? Why not tell
every mother that the chances are good that she won't have enough milk?
I think we've got too many things that undermine breastfeeding and that
providing each woman with good care including knowledge of what to look for
in terms of problems and what to do about it if problems arise is what is
needed. I've talked to too many women who have had their confidence
undermined by well-meaning and gentle suggestions that they might anticipate
that they will not make enough milk...they really struggle to get past this.
Why put seeds of doubt (as Andrea described it) in the absence of actual
indicators of a problem.
