Hi Lactnetters!
It has been a long time since I posted anything--computer problems, then travel, and then just being plain lazy and reading archives instead of being active. I'm going back to MAIL now. I hope you all can help me with a problem. My sister is expecting her second child in mid December. When her first child was 8 months old she had a stroke. She has had seizures since shortly after the stroke. During pregnancy she has had to increase her dose of lamictal to 800mg/day. I think her usual dose is about 200-300mg/day. I can't find any research about BF with that high dose of medication. Looking through the archives it seemed like Tom Hale must have been doing some research on lamictal and BF. Has anyone heard anything about new research or worked with a mom taking this high a dose of lamictal? My sister's neurologist has told her that he will probably reduce the dose greatly shortly after birth (based on her blood levels), but that still leaves the baby exposed to a greater dose from breastmilk in the early weeks than he was exposed to in utero (I think). She has been allergic to other anticonvulsants and really wants to BF this baby after sudden premature weaning with the stroke last time. I would be very grateful for someone else's experience or knowledge here.

BTW--The ILCA regional conference was terrific. It got me fired up again!
