The infant formula that improves infant stool patterns is based on patent #
6248784 called, "Infant formula and methods of improving infant stool
patterns." It says, "this invention also discloses novel mixtures of fatty
acids that provide infant stool patterns more closely resembling the
breast-fed infant." The inventor is Kuch et al and the patent is assigned to
Abbott. Note that the following brief passage mentions that this invention
can include fatty acids made from recombinant plants, transgenic plants and
transgenic animals. At this point in time, I am not sure that there is any
ingredient in infant formula that isn't gmo'd in order to imitate human milk.
And believe it or not there are transgenic cows who produce human
lactoferrin which is added to infant formula. Milk lactoferrin was given
GRAS status this year--milk lactoferrin is made from transgenic cows. (Its
how you get the whey ratio more like human milk and how you get the protein
to be less "foreign." Change the genes around and you have a cow's milk that
is closer to human milk.)

patent # 6248784

"a) In another embodiment, the fat blend further comprises 2.7-3.1 weight %
stearic acid, 17-29 weight % linoleic acid and 1.7-3.2 weight % linolenic
acid. The fat blend having the recited fatty acid profile can be achieved
through a blend of high oleic safflower oil, soy oil and coconut oil. In
general, any appropriate source of fatty acids, such as oils, fats,
phospholipids, emulsifiers, tissue extracts, single cell oils, recombinant
plants, transgenic plants and animals and animals and the like, can be used
in this invention, provided less than 10% by weight of total fatty acids is
palmitic acid. In an additional embodiment of this invention the weight ratio
of linoleic acid to palmitic acid always exceeds 2:1. A frrther aspect of the
invention resides in the discovery of a fatty acid profile for an enteral
formula that possesses up to 10 weight % palmitic acid and a weight ratio of
lauric acid to palmitic acid to oleic acid of from 3:1:7 to 1.2:1:4.3. The
mostpreferred ratio is about 1.8:1:5.2."
