Just one more thought: In moms who present this early with diffuse mastitis
(especially if she is already on antibiotic as this mom is) should be tested
for infection in other areas particularly uterine and bladder. Also check if
she is a B -strep carrier. Ruth Lawrence has a reference in her book that
says moms presenting with bilateral mastitis should be checked for beta strep.
I always get worried if the mom presents with mastitis and no obvious nipple
trauma. Ascending mastitis is a little more obvious then a decending mastitis.
