Just a quick mention about the NBAC-- in addition to the discussion on
Lactnet, I have received numerous calls regarding how the campaign works and have
been lecturing on the topic all summer. The ads are PSAs (public service
announcements) that were distributed by the Ad Council to over 28,000 media outlets
across the US. There are 18 locations that serve as Community Demonstration
Projects (CDP) who contracted with the Office on Women's Health to help contact
the media and disseminate the materials. Arizona does not have a CDP which
means that if you wish to see the ads on TV, radio, in print or on billboards you
need to contact the media outlets in your area and ask that they place the
ads. The media does this as a public service so there is no funding needed to
cause ads to be seen. See if your state breastfeeding taskforce or ILCA affiliate
is interested in taking on the task.

The May 2004 issue of the Journal of Human Lactation has an article
explaining how the campaign works. There is a set of 5 posters that can be ordered from
the Office on Women's Health that are great to put up in hospitals and
pediatric offices, clinics, WIC agencies, libraries, or anywhere mothers gather.

Information is available at www.4woman.gov or you can call 800 994-WOMAN.
Order the posters and contact the media. The slogan is BABIES WERE BORN TO BE
BREASTFED.
