Being new to Lactnet I have been searching the archives for pierced nipples
and found a thread last December. Being new to bf counseling I was
intrigued when one of my first home visits was to a Mom who'd had a pierced
nipple. The problem was sleepy baby/engorgement, and she was having less
trouble with the pierced-nipple-breast than with the unpierced one. She
mentioned the pierced nipple and I took a subtle good look at it: I
wouldn't have spotted the scar tissue (slightly paler than surrounding
tissue) without the hint. Baby woke up and started feeding; engorgement
subsided; pierced nipple so far (10 days postpartum) seems completely
irrelevent to breastfeeding. She did some 'emergency relief' pumping;
pierced nipple not affected by this either, though it wasn't very
extensive. So add it to the list of positive outcomes for pierced nipples!
