Hi Nancy,
I got my CLE training from the Lactation Institute. They came to Stockton
last Oct., and WIC sent me (the first PC to be able to go from our WIC, and
hopefully not the last!). I know that there are other programs out there,
there is a University that does a CLE program, but don't remember which one.
To the best of my knowledge, there is no board, as for IBCLC's, that does
CLE exams or anything like that. I kida wonder if maybe there should be,
though. The university program seems to be more for the medical folks (just
heresay from others, I have no personal knowledge, though I hear they are
very good) and the LI course seems to be for everyone, with WIC folks and the
non-medical person able to come and feel right at home. I enjoyed the LI
course immensly!
I think it would be an interesting idea to have a standard exam that everyone
who wants to be a CLE would have to take. One that could be given by the
groups who give the CLE trainings, but that was standard so everyone from any
course took the same exam. Would ensure that the CLE's all had the basic
same info.
With so much mixed up, outdated info out there (as we see from our frustrated
posts and get from others who are supposedly knowledgeable but really
aren't), that it would be nice if we could all say 1+1=2 and all the CLE's
would agree. ( I know that this field is not that cut and dry, but you know
what I mean!) I realize that this type of thing would be along time in
coming, and maybe not even very popular, but it would certainly give more
respect to the title CLE if it was a board certified type of thing.
Any comments on this?
Take care all!
Jay
