Hi all,
Had tp post to this one even though I really don't have the time!

I would like to know where the midwives got this ridiculous information???
Moms who have been BF for months and have been put on the compbo oral BC
pill, have lost their supply. It is the estrogen, if I remember correctly,
that kills the milk supply. Even with the mini pill, if it is given within
the first 6-8 weeks, I have had clients lose their supplies. If mom
absolutely has to go on BC pills, then she should wait well after 6 weeks and
then only go on the mini pill. Even my OB has said NO lactating woman should
go on combo oral BC pills because it will kill their supply, and the hormones
in the pill may affect the baby in not so great ways.
My reccomendation to all my clients, is avoid hormonal BC for as long as
possible, and I remind them about lactanional amennorhea, and BF frequently,
etc.
Also, geesh, I wish I could remember who said it, but someone brought up a
safety/health risk factor of giving a newly delivered mother oral BC pills.
The pills change the nature of the cylce and moms bleeding, and if she has a
bleeding problem after delivery and she is on the BC pill, who is to know
whether or not it is simply related to the pill, or if it is a serious
problem that could result in dramatic health risks for the mom.
I am amazed that these midwives are reccomending this. Hopefully someon will
get them some current and correct info ASAP!
Take care, and hope this helps!

Jay
