Hi All,
A Peds nurse passed on this info: One of the hospitalists who works peds
and sees newborns has recently started instructing lactating moms to mix
their breastmilk with pedialyte for their sick children. He states that
this will enhance electrolyte balance. He's the only one that is ordering
this "combination."
I've never heard of this and don't think this could really be beneficial.
I'd prefer they breastfeed and then give whatever necessary supplements
separately.
Has anyone else heard of this? Have you heard of any research that would be
appropriate to dissuade him from continuing this practice?
Thanks for any info!
Shirley
