Kathy,

Gonneke's suggestion was right on. It sounds like it's time for a
baby vacation. Mom and the baby, in bed with lots of skin-to-skin
contact.

The mom might also appreciate information on early signs of hunger
and the normal course of early breastfeeding. Most newborns eat much
more frequently than every 3 hours. Most newborns are made to do
some cluster feeding also. Most, if not all, suckling should be done
at the breast. Breast compressions couldn't hurt either.

This mom might also get a lot out of sharing what she's going
through with other moms. Is there a mother-to-mother support group
in your area? It can be very comforting and a great learning
experience for her.

Hope this helps.
