I want to respond to response to my original posting about pacifiers.
Of course I think that the mother is the real thing. And I do not
encourage pacifier use. And I tell parents that there are numerous
studies that have shown a correlation between pacifier use and poor
breastfeeding outcomes. And I tell them if their baby is "plugged" they

will be missing feeding cues, and I think mothers make the best
"pacifiers". I am not pushing pacifiers. However, we do have parents
who want them, and unfortunately we do give them out (I would love for
our hospital to be baby friendly. But this is where I live and where I
work, and frankly am pretty proud of how we support breastfeeding and
our breastfeeing rate in the hospital is 95%). My reality is that we do

have pacifier use here and we would like it to interfere with
breastfeeding as little as possible. The feedback I need is whether
there is anything to support one pacifier over another.
