This is what happens here.

This is not because our hospital staff are any more enlightened, BTW
- after all, bottles and bottle teats and formula are 'free' (except
in one hospital I know in London, which gets mothers who want to use
formula to bring in their own supplies - sterilising equipment and
everything) and plenty of bf mothers are advised to give formula.

Parents who want their kids to use dummies are discouraged, and on
the whole they are not used in hospitals. If they are, they have been
brought in from outside, but according to hospital staff I know this
is very, very unusual. The parents usually fall in with what the
hospital suggests.

Of course many parents use them as soon as the baby gets home.
