Hi Paula,
It's very important for a baby with a short jaw to have his head
extended (tipped back) when at the breast to bring the tongue in toward
the breast and allow him to suck and not bite.  Using an asymmetrical
latch will help get more breast in the lower part of the mouth, and
maximize his ability to suck.  If you don't know how to do that, search
the La Leche League website for Andrea Eastman's Leaven article on latch.
