Hi Paula, It's very important for a baby with a short jaw to have his head extended (tipped back) when at the breast to bring the tongue in toward the breast and allow him to suck and not bite. Using an asymmetrical latch will help get more breast in the lower part of the mouth, and maximize his ability to suck. If you don't know how to do that, search the La Leche League website for Andrea Eastman's Leaven article on latch. -- Catherine Watson Genna, IBCLC New York City mailto:[log in to unmask] *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
