The World War I component at Santa Elena produced the metal cans referrred to
as "coin packs" (see South et al 1988, Santa Elena Artifacts) so we know they
were around before 1921... and it seems like I read somewhere that sheepskin
sheaths wre used by Henry VIII. But latex? Rubber? An interesting, and
increasingly relevant research question. Keep us posted. Carl Steen
