actually, I think the "fear the lord" citation comes more from translations  
and retranslations than from political intention one way or the other.
 
as a (harvard) divinity school graduate, I must agree that here are MANY  
very devout believers who are also VERY supportive of and engaged in scientific  
research.  And even those who wouldn't call themselves believers are often  
stunned and amazed by the discoveries we make every day.  One biologist I  met 
recently noted that some of the adaptations he's seen among ocean animals  seem 
to be in direct contradiction to a logical interpretation of the theory of  
natural selection...  yet there they are, goregeous and apparently  useless!

But then  the term used should be "respect the Lord" not "fear the  Lord."  
Interesting that words and terminology need to be translated or   swapped out 
when 
they inconveniently draw criticism. 

And, no  argument that the world could certainly use more respect all  
around.  
Let's start with religious zealots respecting science and other  points  of 
view in general.
