There is a great electronic option to this solution depending on your
portability and budget issues. Some of the newer laptop computers have a
tablet screen. They come with a pen that allows you to "write on the
screen." I am currently using a Gateway laptop with this ability. It is
great for writing our chemical formulas, or sketching out basic physics
layouts. By connecting the laptop to a projector or a large display screen
you can write, erase, color, draw, and even change ink colors in a large
display format. You can also simply hold up the laptop do display your text
or drawings.

Magna-Doodles work o.k., but you sacrifice a little bit on the
durability side. One way to avoid this is to modify the "magnet pen"
that comes with the Magna-Doodle (or make your own) with a broader,
less blunt tip that discourages "stabbing" the Magna-Doodle surface.

Good Luck!
