Magna-Doodles work o.k., but you sacrifice a little bit on the  
durability side.  One way to avoid this is to modify the "magnet pen"  
that comes with the Magna-Doodle (or make your own) with a broader,  
less blunt tip that discourages "stabbing" the Magna-Doodle surface.
