I've seen shingle nails (thin ones for cedar shingles) driven inward through the end bars with the tips then bent into hooks with needle-nose pliers. Wires are then quickly run back and forth between the hooks and tied off with a twist.  There is thus no need to thread the wire thru end bar holes.

Of course there are also pins available that look like the (very) old fashioned one-piece clothespins which go thru the end bar holes.  Foundation then sits in the notch of the pins and is held on-centre.
