To me, those that consistently have low winter losses, good honey
production, and most importantly have lots of extra bees for sale each
spring.  If commercial, making a good return on investment demonstrates
that one at least knows how to manage bees profitably.

I find that the "very best beekeepers" are generally quiet and invisible,
yet well known to the other commercial beekeepers in their area, and spoken
of with the greatest respect.
