Aaron asked if Vita's AFB field diagnostic kits only work on vegetative
cells: the answer is no, they detect spores also. Validation has been
performed on fresh and on frozen larvae, scales and AFB spore-infested comb,
(including larvae infested with other diseases or healthy ones).

The sensitivity to AFB spores is around 4 x 107 spores.

The kits will be generally available to beekeepers and researchers and will
not be restricted to "official use" by apiary inspectors/ministry officials
as has been suggested. However, these diagnostic tools will be useful also
for apiary inspectors in confirming their diagnoses.
