After a large die-off of pine trees in the forests, when they rusted and dried up, another parasite is spreading through the European Union, which from afar and in size resembles large hornet nests at the ends of branches.

This is a huge number of nests of white silk, which are already located on many thousands of hectares of pine trees.

A really large number of white cocoons. As you drive through the Italian Dolomites, you'll find views of fairy-tale rocks filled with white nests of Thaumetopoea pityocampa Schiff.

The reality and scale of this caterpillar infestation looks more dire than writes in the news.
