Hi Karen,
       I think what you have is a drone trap that is used when mating
queens.  The trap is placed on hives which have drones that you DON'T
want mating with your virgin queens.  The queen escape in front allows
the workers to come and go but prevents the drones from leaving the
hive.  The cones at the top allow the drones access to the hive, but
they can't leave.  How about you pros out there?  Do I have this
right?
