> Why not read the
transcripts and see just how little was required to turn Dr. Pettis from a
highly-respected lab head into a target?

I read the transcript, and didn't notice anything that would suggest that
Pettis became a target due to something that he said.

On the other hand, during the Pettis fiasco, I was in contact with both a
senior ARS official, as well as a staff member of the Beltsville Lab. My
understanding was that his "demotion" was due to a local bureaucratic
political issue having nothing to do with either his research, testimony,
or publications.
