A monthly evaluation in 2005 of various measures of varroa densities in two types of apiaries (naturally selected untreated vs. production "treated"), ten years after the arrival of mites, this time by a university group. They claim their numbers are lower than earlier reports soon after the arrival of varroa. But they also appear lower than in the 2022 government research institute report. The picture is definitely murky in terms of treatments, cultural interventions (like drone brood removal), degree of selection and queen replacement, but the values for varroa density would still be troublesome in a temperate area.
