The story so far,

2016. Neonics efficiently kill undesirable insect pests while causing minimal collateral damage. Non-target species receiving a sub-lethal dose are able to harmlessly metabolize it.

2016. Home video shot by citizen scientist exposes fake news! Cutting edge home video filmed in a roadside ditch shows a few live butterflies and a bee, thus proving neonics are harmless to butterflies and bees.

2016. There are lots of song birds and too many starlings.

2018. Insect populations suffer widespread collapsed but it can’t be the fault of neonics because some pesky insects are still thriving. General insect decline probably caused by viruses.

2018. Strong wind leveled the house but it can’t have been a hurricane because the outhouse is still standing. Wind probably caused by waving tree branches.

2018. Ditches are all burnt or flooded providing new habitat for insects.

2018. There are still too many starlings.
