Robin...I agree with you that we should not feed our colonies when supers
are on, and should let nectar flows be the source...although I would if
trying to get brood combs drawn...and all I had was foundation.

But, I have had problems with adding foundation "before" the flow starts.
If foundation is put on a hive, with no flow, the bees often chew the
foundation down to the wires, ruining it for future use. I could see this
happening if you give them foundation before the flow starts...then the
flow is weak or non-existent...as sometimes happens...and the foundation,
the money you spent on it, and all the work to install it in the
frames...is lost.
