Now sure, calling the behaviours "advertising", "dancing", "recruiting",
"evaluating", "reaching a quorum", "deciding"...  I suppose one could
call that anthropomorphic.  But what would *you* call those behaviours?

One could have just as easily used metaphors derived from computer programming, electronic circuitry, or chemistry, &c. He chose to anthropomorphize the whole shebang and lost a large percentage of his audience. Maybe if he were more well versed in cybernetics or molecular biology, the story would have played out differently, but ultimately the Quaker backgrounding prevailed. They are just metaphors, in any case, and don't really describe what is actually happening.
