How is pollen really digested?

- Osmotic shock ?
- honey bee proteolytics enzymes ?
- microbies in the midgut?

...all of them are true?

I´m not testing your knowledge but requesting help;... writing (and learning) just now about this topic for a bee magazine.
I need some reference paper of book. The is a bit confusing about this topic.
