>>>  I have  the  luxury of keeping our research hives on elevated stands

I have my hive on hive stands.  These stands will hold three hive each, with each hive spaced far enough apart that I can set removed supers, etc. on the stand beside the hive on which I'm working.

Stand construction.  Two concrete blocks high with two parallel landscape timbers across the tops of the blocks.  Makes the bottom board about 20" above ground level.  And the stands are eight feet long.
