>So those August-flowering sumacs must be the winged and smooth?

The order most years is smooth first, by about a week or so, then staghorn and later winged. So we can have some sumac blooming almost all summer. Smooth and staghorn are the most important and they flower in early June. This year smooth was out June 11th and the staghorn still has a few days before it blooms. Last year they were only three days apart -June 18 and 21. In 2015 winged started on July 30th and held for two weeks into August.
