One thing I have not seen mentioned anywhere is the original origin of
both tracheal and varroa mites.  I gather they are just as much of a problem
in Europe as here in America---but where did they come from?  What was the
original source of infestation?
 
I am also hearing that tracheal mites can infest wild (non-honeybee) bee
populations, as well.  Is this true?
