Charlie, the world looks a bit different through a biologist's eyes.  Yes,
an asteroid impact may wipe out most of life on Earth at any time.  But
that doesn't give us justification to steal or murder our neighbors, just
because we know that they will eventually die from some cause.

The other forms of life on Earth are our neighbors, and a great many are
going extinct due to habitat conversion by Man.  My personal ethic is that
this shows great disrespect for other forms of life, simply so that we can
mechanically harvest food so cheaply that the cost of it accounts for less
than 10% of the American family budget.

I draw the line on moral responsibility with human-caused extinction of
species.  Yes, species go extinct due to natural causes.  But I do not wish
to support driving them to extinction so that I can enjoy cheap fast food.
