Hi,

Where are you located (state)?  You could try building top bar hives they
can be cheap if you have access to scrap lumber if you have to by new
lumber.  You may wish to just buy equipment (used is possible but often not
recommended for begginers)as it won't be much if any cheaper in using new
lumber.  Beesource.com has plans for lots of equipment.  Also would be good
to find a local beekeeper.
