     It may be that there is not a local beekeeper or Beekeeping club to mentor someone.  This was my problem when I started out.  The closest club was and still is over 3 hrs. away, and the closest beek is over an hour away.I am sure that I am not the only beek who started out that way and I must say that when you are a self taught beekeeper the learning curve in these cases is incredibily steep.  That is one reason that I have lurked on bee-l for so many years.  No matter how much you read ABJ or Bee Culture, or any of the well written books that are available, you still have questions that can only be answered by experienced beeks.  Thats one reason I would like to see everyone here be a little more willing to help beginning beeks here.

     BTW  I have really enjoyed reading other folks memories of their first hives.
