Is there a good book on the history of bees in North America?

I know the native Americans called them "White Man's Fly" - but who
actually brought them here? And How? Just shut them up in a skep for the
long boat trip?
I wonder - is there any remnant of those pioneer bees still around today?
In fact, are the bees in Britain still related to their black bees of old?

  Any suggested reading? Thanks.
