OK. Thanks for the context.

I guess another issue is who defines "acceptable".

At any rate, I am remembering many instances where products have been deemed
"safe" and made their way past the watchdogs, and later found to be less
than safe. I'm thinking Vioxx, bisphenols, DDT, PCBs...

My mother was taking Vioxx, we are all exposed to bisphenols, people
routinely were sprayed down with DDT for de-licing, and my buddies in the
winding shop washed their hands in PCBs before lunch since they were handy,
did not smell, and took off greasy dirt quite well. Cigarette companies
were able to convince even doctors that smoking was harmless by trotting out
studies.

The list continues.

I am glad that we are not able to find the kind of acute risks in this new
chemical that were feared, however I think we still need to be vigilant and
not just get bulldozed by tons of data.

It seems to me that oftentimes the winner of a debate is the party with the
most time and funds at hand. This is particularly true of a focused
interest like a drug or chemical company when opposed only by fragmented,
underfunded or bureaucratic opposition, parts of which can be co-opted or
baffled by copious literature and talk.

Not saying that this is the case here, but here's hoping that everyone is as
optimistic about this product five years hence.

I think I have spoken my piece, and I am underfunded and short of time.
