My understanding is the 90+% kill rate for two OA vaporisations is for phoretic mites only, hence the need for a string of repetitions every 5 to 7 days to deplete mites emerging from the brood. 

I've not seen any studies but would imagine the OA breaks down or loses its effectiveness quite quickly after application rather than persisting to pick up emerging mites.
