Juanse, and all:

I merely offered up this as an example of the one cause/one solution approach to CCD. Many people singled out nosema as the one cause, others focused on IAPV. Similarly, a huge faction thinks neonics are the culprit and that by simply banning them, all of our problems would evaporate. 

Seems human nature wants a simple answer to complex problems. What if what is causing CCD is all of the above and more? Then what? What if it is a symptom of life in the 21st century? That's why I feel it is of utmost importance to study the healthy bees, not just the sick ones.

If I had the money, I'd put bees in an isolated non-stressed environment and see what really healthy colonies look like. Then I would move half of them into regular production use, pollination, etc. and see where, when & what changes begin to take place. 

Problem is, nobody seems to have a couple hundred colonies that they want to just leave the hell alone.
