A film on a digital TV channel here last night 'The Last of the Honeybees' (I think that something similar was shown in the US under the title 'The Last of the Beekeepers') said that the US beekeeper population had fallen from 500,000 in 1950 to 1,500 now.  Presumably these figures were for commercial beekeepers?
