while it is true that variation is the result of sexual reproduction and the
resulting chromosomal exchange, _evolution_ requires a modification of the sex
cell chromosomal material to allow production of an entirely _different_
individual (in some respect)...this is possible only through mutation, a
process left out of the discussion in the paper (it would have little to
do with breeding better bees, anyway and is only mentioned for accuracy)
