John asks about using just 3/8" wire mesh under his hives.

Yes, John, I think it would work fine except if you ever wanted to move the
hives or the pallets you wouldn't have any way to stop the bees from flying.
If you are never going to move them, or don't mind the extra step of putting
on bottoms at that time, your idea would work just fine.
